Slick Run and FireFox search

I just saw this post about SlickRun over at the Computer Zen’s blog and it made me think how much I use the search functions in many applications. One of my favorite was the Brief style searches and specifically the one implemented in FireFox. When you press the forward slash “/” you get the find menu and it is very easy to find your text.

I also think for any application there should be some kind of key mapping to general tasks and functions. I play D&D online and they have a chat console with all sorts of commands. You get use to just typing these commands versus going to the mouse.

I was thinking this would be a very cool enhancement to a product like Lotus Notes where you can match a link (document, database, or view) to words. This would allow you to just type “tdb” for something like “Team Room Database”.
